I went with them this year as they were good value and cover offered was exactly what I was looking for. I'm covered for theft and public liability.

So far a great service and I really wanted to go with an Irish company so they were perfect.

If you call them for a quote ask for Derek and you can mention Colm O'Neill sent you.

    Happy hunting!!

Yep I'm with these guys too, just be careful to read what's not covered in the policy to avoid disappointment.

Camerainsurance.ie is pretty much 'aduki insurance' rebranded. They're just a reseller from what I remember. If you go direct to them it's cheaper. I ended up saving about €40/50 last year by skipping the middle man.

I priced Adukki and they were more expensive than going with camerainsurance.ie. :D

They're not a reseller, they're a broker, and there is a massive difference. A broker will always work in your best interest, while a reseller works in the best interest of the insurance company.

Hi Guys, we are at Photofest today. Drop by the stand. Anyone with any questions or queries that can't make it today feel free to give me a call in the office. 01 8408060. We use the same underwriter as Aaduki and same policy and we have a further discount on the rates.

Mention boards and I'll give you the same show discount that we are offering today.

Hugh_C, agree with you here, most important that you read your document. I try when chatting to all to explain the benefits and what is not covered. If there is something in the policy such as security requirements that are not applicable to an individual we generally do get a work around.

    Derek.

I got a ridiculous quote from aduki and saved a lot more than you did by going with camerainsurance.ie.

MCTarakan I am a director of the company. We are a broker so are on the clients side when it comes to claims. A large number of the boardies have taken insurance out with us over the last number of months.

PM a few of them from this post for their views on us. If you have any questions or queries give me a call directly.

    Derek.

Thanks, Derek. The reason I'm asking that question is that when it come up to money claim from insurance company it's always not in favor of end user. May be becouse I had bad experience with car insurance....

No problems MCTarakan. Like all the insurance policies out there you have to be aware of the terms and conditions. They are clearly set out in the documents.

We will walk you through any claims process in the unfortunate event that something did happen your gear.

Also keep a note of your equipment and serial numbers. Take photos of any secondhand gear you may have bought and have no receipt for. Take a photo of them with a paper with date.

Anytime give me a call if unsure.

Yes! I have just gone through this. Sorry in advance for the long post, but it's not often you read about claims here and it could be helpful to some. It's also to give credit where credit is due to camerainsurance.ie

I was in the unfortunate situation where most of my camera equipment was stolen from my car three weeks ago. Opportunist thieves smashed the windows of 4 cars in a rural car park and stole contents from the boots of the cars. My gear was in the boot, including 5D MkII, 70-200 f/2.8 IS II, 24-70 f/2.8, flash, triggers etc. So huge shock to get back to the car and find it all gone.

Thankfully I had taken out a policy in January with camerainsurance.ie . At the time we agreed what value would be covered at home, and outside (in the car). There was a condition of the policy that the back parcel shelf had to be hard. My car is an estate with a roll-back parcel shelf. Derek checked it out with the insurers and they waived that requirement without additional charge (so do read the conditions and look out for this sort of thing!).

So.. after I recovered from the experience (and I DID lose sleep!) I called O'Loughlins (camerainsurance.ie) to see how to make the claim. They asked me for details of all the equipment that was stolen, including serial numbers. I keep all this in a spreadsheet, which thankfully was backed up (my laptop was also stolen! From now on I'll keep it in "The Cloud" on google docs!). I then completed a claims form with a description of the crime, pulse ID, equipment details again and emailed it all to O'Loughlins. Receipts were requested for everything where possible. I had receipts for all the new kit, but had to go back to some of the people I bought second hand goods from. Most didn't get back to me, but I had the original boxes so included photos of these. In future I'll be asking for receipts for high value second hand goods just as proof ownership. It saves time in the event that you need to claim!

All throughout the process I had regular proactive phone calls from Colleen at O'Loughlins with updates as to how my claim was progressing. When they offered a settlement, it was actually a couple of hundred euro higher than I was insured for (they worked out a way to claim for goods in transport as well as goods outside the house), and they waived the excess. The money hit my bank account last night (they offered to either replace the equipment, or transfer the money to my account and let me source it myself)

These guys totally exceeded my expectations. There is no doubt that they were working on my behalf rather than that of the underwriters. To be honest my main worry after the kit was stolen was that the insurers will do everything they can to get out of paying for this. Thankfully I was wrong in this case.

I'm have no connections whatsoever with camerainsurance.ie or anyone that works there. I'm just a happy and relieved customer!

Great post hm. I have decided on them also. I had dealt with someone elsewhere but when the person I dealt with moved on I was not happy with the levels of service within the company. I found Derek to be a lovely fella, decent price and good cover, as always I will be getting the full whack, gear, pi and pl and the price is competitive never mind the fact that they seem to be a good crowd to deal with also.

It's always great to see good reviews if a company too, hope you have managed to replace your gear hm!
