I have to say Steve I thought your 'April Fools ' Thread was in very poor taste . Knowing how firey things get here in the Airsoft forum. I think your great for the job here, but that was just asking for s%&t to happen.
So thumbs down from me, sorry man.:(
Theres fun and then there is stirring it.

    Agreed, it was dumb.

Regardless of personal opinion but are es place as a mod, saying he was making a stand against issues that some people feel strongly about and then letting g people vent and saying.g it was a joke......

    It's like

As much as I agree with you, given your self-described overreaction team here on boards, would this thread not have been better suited to a PM? It just strikes me as another open battlefield on our dear forum.

Ger, you should never tell jokes around anyone. You're not funny and nobody likes you.

We run around dressed as soldiers with toy guns shooting each other.
If you havent a sense of humour by now , god love us all.

I wonder are people annoyed by the joke , or by their reaction to it ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭OddysAirsoft

I am with Dobby all the way with this - there is enough sniping and bitching on here as it is and for a Mod to run a joke (even for AprilFools) where it would invite emotional response, was poor judgement in my opinion!

The truth is this forum is sometimes not a friendly place and people comment all the time that posters are reluctant to post for fear of being slagged off etc! Therefore adding fuel to an already burning fire has the potential to do way more harm than the core of the joke doing good!

Sorry guys but it's a big FAIL from me!

Ps-Anyone who knows me, knows I have a great sense of humour - but this just wasn't funny!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,984 ✭✭✭NakedDex

People also comment that things are taken far too seriously. This is case in point. The vast majority of people simply wished Steve well and said they were sorry to see him go, regardless of who he mentioned to take over. A couple pulled out their daggers and went for blood. Had that not happened, everyone would have laughed the whole thing off.
So, in conclusion, Steve's amusing joke was ruined by sniping posters not keeping their unwarranted thoughts to themselves.

Bring back the '08 era, when people realised how ridiculous the game we engage in is and took themselves with the appropriate pinch of salt when it came to being on Boards. Jesus, at this rate I miss Silverhaze and Llort...

Gave me a brilliant laugh reading the responses.

In fairness I think Steve went with the lighter option, the ones I gave him were alot worse ;)

April fools is bout making a fool out of people, definitly suceeded

Oh come on REALLY. It was funny.
I read first page hit reply and wished him well. Then realised the date and sat back and laughed. Was even talking to someone as they put their foot in it
    (you know who are):D
Seriously lads and ladies it's a Chat forum. It's only words on a screen:rolleyes: I think people take this Place way too serious it's not as if the whole airsoft community revolves around boards. It also pointed out how we are so quick too react too post's without taking time too consider them so I don't think Steve can take the blame on the poster's reaction. Also I think that if people are getting so worked up about issues here on boards that they need to log off and get out a bit more:p

Ah ffs, it was a laugh - most people got it.

Those that didn't should know not to take anything seriously on boards on April first - at least till after midday. This happens every year in some form or other.

In the esteemed words of an ex after hours mod, "some people here need to untwist their knickers a bit, others need to take in some slack. That way we all get along". :)

Nobody died, most got a laugh = win.

I get what you're saying Steve but this Boards Community is like a tinder box - and it's been that way long before I joined! If it was a more casual forum then I would agree and laugh it off! But the whole purpose of the exercise was to draw a few individuals out - to set a trap so you could all laugh at them!

TBH when you posted that you were leaving, I really couldn't give a damn! And I do not mean that in a derogatory way but because there was this cloud of negativity and malice about your post -and I for one don't need to listen to any more crap - I have enough of my own!

Ok so it was a joke! One that has alienated more people AGAIN, made the 'clique' giggle at a few 'numpties' and the 'numpties' resent the 'clique' a little more!

    Bravo!

For someone staring off in this sport I would NOT send them to Boards first - because in truth I think it shows the sport in a very poor and negative light (sweeping generalisation I know) and makes us look like a bunch of bickering buffoons - which experience in the field has shown me - WE ARE NOT!

"Oh a controversial thread on boards"

    *Reads said thread*

"That could have been very inflammatory had it not been locked"

    *Thinks*

"I had better open a thread to discuss this negative and imflammatory topic, surely it won't become another mud slinging match"

    *Thread is disaster*

Sorry, but I have to agree with oddy... As someone who is still somewhat new to airsoft, the whole thing made me want to wish him the best, but as it turned into a joke, it made a few look like idiots whilst the others laughed at them. Now if this was not a a Mod, I'm curious, would everyone laugh or would mods issue a warning... I get the feeling that if it wasn't part of the crowd who are close, or a mod, Then everyone would dislike it and call it sh*t stirring.... I was made feel rather sh*t and talked down on these hoards before for just asking a question about terrifying 1 joule. Yet this blatant trolling is ok because of date and who it was.I think as far as a joke, fine. But when it causes hassle and people who dislike others to react-a mod should know better.

I think you make a lot of sense, and I agree with pretty much all of what you said, but... I think perhaps calling it a 'trap' is a little off.

As its been said before.... Steve said he was leaving as a joke.... an april fools joke.

the vast majority either clocked it, or said 'good luck, and thanks'

A minority chose to be rude, insulting, slandarous, and childish, and got themselves burned.

They have nobody but themselves to blame frankly, nobody forced them to be rude or abusive, they trapped themselves.

I do note that not one person complaining about it here, was one of those individuals... which perhaps says something about the whole event.

i do see your point, but i have a lot of issues with posts that i find alienating posts and cliques, i can not help but think if this was posted by different member of the community from a different click the response would from people would be very different, i remember reading heated arguments about why people should be allowed to joke and 'push the boundary http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056109231
, there was a lot of back and forth about what was to much and how outsiders see the rude, crude and abusive post which constantly pop up

a lot of people found these types of post damaging to the community but the vast majority wanted a more laid back approach

im sorry you can not have it both ways

as i said in the off topic thread
am i the only one that seeing the irony of the complaints and the threads we had recently demanding the forum be less serious

but i imagine this is the wrong type of humor as it is nether rude or crude and clearly at the expense of the wrong people......

some found it funny others did not.....i do not see what is differant from 80% of the other content on boards

I personally see this as a useless thread. The point was made that some people didn't like the joke some did. Each to their own !!!

........ then you create a thread which has pretty much no other way to go other than downhill?????? If you dont find something funny on boards then move on and ignore it just like real life mate. I personally fell for it seeing as it WAS pretty believable but sure thats april fools , its just in the Irish spirit tbh.

This thread serves no purpose but create a battlefield for ill opinions of each other making THIS thread the real problem.

(Not aimed at you in any way dobby , just my opinion :))

Exactly Firekitten. But maybe that also shows that people even with an unbiased view of the event still found it that it went to far and got too personal. I have no affiliation with the slanderer's and also none with people that got slandered.

Guys , I have never posted in the main forum, but when I saw the thread I felt strongly enough to post my comment. Its not that I don't have a sense of humour and don't see the funny side of things, but it was when Steve brought into the equation other boards members into his joke that I was annoyed. It would have been a non issue for me if it were just about him stepping down as mod.
I am usually quite reserved with my posts, but for me this simply had to be said.
I think those of you that have as much said lighten up and get a sense of humour , to me, says a lot.

I think it's a true reflection of this community at the moment that individual's can not voice their opinion about a matter that has occurred on this forum without the usual constructive replies like...."ffs...it was only a joke....get a f*&king life" appearing. Obviously a number of people felt the same about the situation so why not be able to voice those concerns. I presume we are all mature enough to debate and give our opinion's on a matter, although after seeing some replies i may have to re-evaluate that. What gives someone else's opinion more weight than another person's opinion? I'm relatively new to this sport and this forum but i have being hearing from experienced airsofter's not to pay credence to the majority of things on this forum. I am gradually seeing why they have said this to me. I would have to agree with Oddy's assessment earlier that alot of the time this community paints a bad picture of this sport we enjoy so much.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,205 ✭✭✭Firekitten

Excuse me... but I only saw hurtful comments, and nasty snipes being thrown at one person on the topic....

    Me.

Why the hell does anyone that DIDNT post in it, or those that MADE the hurtful comments, get to say it wasn't funny, or that they were upset by it?
They sure as HELL don't get the 'oh its my opinion and i'm entitled to it' when that opinion is personally abusive to a member.(Whoever that member is, before you start digging)

Those commenting without having been involved, should perhaps consider what they are implying by siding with one group, that they support bullying and abuse on the very forum they claim is going down hill.

    You want humour?

    you want something funny?

Perhaps try saying something funny, not snipey. So many here didnt have the balls to say anything in the original thread, yet are happy to gripe now, and throw blame.... Something doesn't seem right there.

What we NEED to do, is to wake up.

Boards has had a rough time, and a laying blame at anyone, is going to only pepertuate matters. We need an attitude ajustment, and we need it now.
From this point forwards, we need to try our hardest to make this forum somewhere friendly, and informative that people don't feel scared to post in (And that is NOT one person's fault before you try again) We're all involved... we ALL need to make the change or its useless.

I hope this entire episode has opened people's eyes. Its time for a fresh start, EVERYONE has to do it, or it wont work. Every one of us must put the past behind them, and change for the good of this forum.

    I'll start....

I've been snipey, and sarcastic, and at times, its not been funny, even to me in retrospect. I've argued, and I've bitched and I've been wrong. I'm the first to put my hand up and say I need to change some things.

It would be nice if we could all publically admit our faults, rather than bitch about each others.
