a lot cheaper than regular wrap

There's a reason for that. Nobody wants it. A lot of farmers had mouldy bales for the last 2 years because of it. Be prepared to put on a few extra layers of it if you want to ensure your silage quality. Your savings will quickly be lost. Its a pain in the ass wrapping with it too. It continually breaks and you'll be up and down off the tractor pulling it out of th e roll and reconnecting it on a regular basis.

    Anyone use Volac?
Was very disappointed with some of the bales this winter. I think contracter used cheap wrap. We had used up our own and some was supplied by the contractor.

We used visqueen last year, and were very happy with it. Made a few calls this week about plastic 82-83 euro per roll we were buying the same last year for 69.

used quinn last year and put extra layers on bales and had great silage.. mould on bales usually due to grass being to dry extra layers of plastic make it into haylage better feeding and onlly costs 35-40 cents a bale

Visqueen and Quinn Wrap were the same price last year from both suppliers in Derrylin. EUR62 per roll. Visqueen is a good wrap. Its easy to wrap with as it doesn't break and it has a good threshold to damage when stacking the bales. I bought his last pallet of visqueen in January for EUR62 per roll. With today's prices, it looks like I got a good deal.

I don't agree with this. I normally make hayledge for my cows (weather permitting) and never have a mould problem. I have also had to wrap hay because of no storage space and it never moulds - even with only 4 layers of wrap. Poor quality wrap or bales damaged from handling are the main causes of mould.

I'm with Reilig on this one. Further, if your wanting performance from your cattle I would rate good Silage as better feeding. The haylage fills them up quicker, great stuff for suckler cows! We have made haylage and with the extra wrap its a great job.

We feed haylage to in calf suckler cows. Helps keep calves small and gives us an easier calving season.

They started a new one last year, Volac Topwrap 2000. You'll pay a few quid more (not sure to be honest, sorry) but get almost 40 bales in a role. As far as I know, the average roll gets 33. I spose have a good look around at prices, and stay away from Quinn plastic, brutal stuff.

where did you get quinn for 60 plus vat? find that very hard to believe

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8 johnnyford

got if from quinn themselves go on to there web page they give a list of there agents. it works out at 72.6 including and the local co op will sell it for 75 so either way its a good bit cheaper than the rest. have you used it some bad reports. we used it last year and had no trouble

The reason the Topwrap goes the bit further is that is pre-streched.
