Asking my landlord to take rent supplement

Just wondering if anyone would be able to help me with this. I'm not sure if it should be here in State Benefits or in the renting forums.

I've recently become unemployed, checked with the CWO and I'd qualify for rent supplement. I just have to check with my landlord as to whether or not he'll approve it. The only thing is...my landlord is notoriously difficult. He's a very hard man to track down, we pretty much just pay our rent into his account every month and that's the only contact we have with him. Not that that's a bad thing from a landlord, certainly better than having an interfering landlord. He pretty much just wants to collect rent but not have anything to do with the property other than that.

I have to send him an email asking about this. I've been putting it off and off for fear that he says no, I really don't know what I'll do then. I paid the rent last month out of my savings so that I wouldn't have to ask. I was hoping a job would come up and I could save myself the mortification of having to get it from the CWO and explaining to the landlord that I was unemployed. Asking him to accept it seems like begging for some reason.

Anyway, it's just not possible to pay him from savings anymore as they don't exist and I have to face up to it and write the email. Does anyone have any suggestions for how I could word it. I'm usually good at this but I think the fear of him saying no is holding me back from writing it. I've lived in the property for the past 8 months, always paid my rent on time, been the perfect tenant even making a few repairs. I know that before I moved in the girls there had trouble finding someone for the room as it's quite small, so I'm hoping he might not want the hassle of finding someone else.

    Any help is appreciated.
