It has been announced by the UK Anti Doping Organisation that for the first time in the UK, an amateur cyclosportive participant has failed a random drugs test.

A 34-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is said to have been part of a targeted crackdown in amateur athletes using potentially dangerous performance enhancing drugs. We can confirm that the test took place in an UCI Golden Bike Event in the summer of 2010.

Due to the affiliation with the UCI, such accredited events are duty bound to allow drug testers to operate at no notice at any Golden Bike Event. However, it is thought to be the first drugs test of its kind in an amateur mass-participation event, held on UK roads.

Oh dear, I'll have to get a TUE for my inhalers. The shame of 'Dropped A4 rider fails drug test' would be too much to bear.
