VTN Vehicle Testing Statement query

Not too sure if it belongs here....

Put the van through the VTN testing today and received a statement to say it passed.
Now it turns out I have to submit this statement at a motor taxation office to receive my Certificate of Roadworthiness(aka DOE).
Thing is,my van is taxed til next year.If I didn't apply for this certificate would my van insurance be intact?

If I was asked to produce a "DOE" Certificate by a member of AGS I'd have 21 days to retrieve this certificate..
It just pains me to have to pay another €15 to receive this, and as far as I'm concerned it's a racket-commercial tax but with added hidden costs.

Thats the way it is and I also cant see how your van could be taxed past the end of this current doe test? Surely you will have to get tax at some point less than a year away?

Old DOE ended 3 months ago, taxed it for a year just before it lapsed.Hadn't realised the insurance could be voided without a DOE...or a VTN Cert??

So in 9 months time you will still have to walk into tax office to get tax. At this time you will still have to pay the €15. I get understand what you are getting at - there is no advantage in not doing it now.

Yes that's true, staving off the inevitable I suppose.
Why VTN can't issue the DOE cert just beggars belief, another fine example of bureaucracy gone mad imo.
