Hope I'm posting in the right forum. My employer plans to put the business into voluntary liquidation after the summer, but plans to open another business, different name etc, else where across the city. My question is will I be entitled to redundancy? the reason I ask is that the boss has more or less there will be a job in the new business for me with a new contract. I have been working in this job for 8 years. Thanks for any info in advance

You will be entitled to redundancy from the employment you are currently in..the company that are employing you will cease and go to liquidation, and if like me a liquidator will be appointed to this company dealing with creditors and staff issues...ie redundancy terms....once a P45 is issued . You are deemed as unemployed from the company and free to start work again in the new company...or elsewhere......you should also contact NERA or citizen advice regarding any issues u may have to ease your mind..

Hi my partner has been working as a trainee accountant for the past 3 and a half years and has now been told that her contract will not be renewed once the 3 and a half years is up. I was wondering if she will be entitled to any sort of redundancy payment?

Any help/advice here will be greaty appreciated

To be eligible for a redundancy payment under the Acts, you must satisfy the following requirements:

You must be aged 16 or over. (Since 8 May 2007 there is no upper age limit of 66.)
You must be in employment that is insurable under the Social Welfare Acts. Full-time employees must be paying Class A PRSI. (This insurability requirement does not apply to part-time workers - see below.)
You must have worked continuously for your employer for at least 104 weeks (2 years) over the age of 16.

While not wishing to imply Jarecki has given incorrect info here , it's my understanding that trainee positions like trainee Solicitor or Accountant do not qualify for redundancy payments.
I've known a couple of people who got let go from such positions when the training period ended and they got nothing.
