If a person closes a claim can a SWI demand attendance for interview?

A letter was received demanding attendance by an inspector. The claim has been closed. I take there is very little they can do to compel attendance.

Depends who has called the person for interview. There are 2 types of inspectors - SWI and SIU.
SWI are the ones that deal with your claim - they probably wouldn't be calling someone for interview if a claim has been closed.
SIU are the ones that deal with social welfare fraud and abuse, ensuring employers are complying with PRSI payments etc. They could require your attendance. I would ring the inspector to be sure.
If you want to know more about the powers of inspectors here are the links:

There could be an overlap between the time the claim was made and the time it was closed. SWI may not know claim was closed. Phone the SWI and tell them you have closed your claim. If its in relation to anything else they may want to see you.
