HTPC - Size DOES matter!

    Hi all,

I need some advice please guys. I was originally going to buy an ASROCK 100HT but have read a lot of stuff online, especially on avforums, about frames dropping when playing 24fps movie files because of the onboard Intel graphics limitations, so I've put the idea on hold. It's too expensive a purchase to have a problem like that! The best thing I like about it is the size of the case. It's incredibly small and would suit my living room perfectly. I've looked around online but cannot find ANy other case that is the same size as it. The other option is to buy the ASROCK 3D vision but that costs around €800 and is overkill considering I don't even have a 3D tv:eek:

I'd love a HTPC but the case is the thing that always stops me from going with the idea as I find them all WAY too big and bulky :( What I am wondering now is, could I buy the parts including a case of that size and put it together myself? I'd like a case that could hold 2x2.5" hard disk drives and a slim dvd/bd drive. I've been looking at the Antec ISK 300-150 too. I've never built a pc but know my way around them so I'm fairly confident I could do it. Can someone advise what I should do here? Any recommendations on a board, preferably usb3 with wireless n would be appreciated too. I think I need an mini-itx if I'm not mistaken? I will not be installing a tv tuner in or using it for gaming.

As I say the case is the most critical piece of kit to me :-)

Thanks, from a confused HTPC wannabe owner!

Cheers howamidifferent, but I am looking at using this to browse the web etc. that's why I am not looking at any media players, thanks for the suggestion though:D I currently own a popcornhour c-200 but would like to upgrade to a HTPC for extra functionality.

I have no experience of the xtreamer but I will be doing some office work on the HTPC now and again and the xstreamer cannot do this. I will also be watching bbc iplayer through the htpc, the xtreamer cannot do this either(In Ireland).

Back to my original post...Can anyone suggest the best mini itx case for a HTPC please?

The item I linked to is not a media player. It's a PC , a HTPC to be precise.
So it functions as a media player also, but it is a PC...Read the spec.:)
