Year old (this week) 16gb 3gs on vodafone. had it jailbroken for a while but got rid of that when i went to 4.2, i'm now on 4.3 since it was out, but in the last week the battery has gotten terrible. i'm used to just getting a day or so from heavy-ish use, but this week i've been on work training in dublin so apart from calls, its not had the same amount of data use as usual.

But the battery is terrible. from 100% at about 11am yesterday morning to 20% this morning, with only a few calls, bits of whats app and a little facebook/browsing (over 3g only). for that little use, i'd usually have a lot more.

I've done the usual troubleshooting, switched off everything in the background, my screen brightness is lowered. the only difference is that i'm not at home, and using cells i wouldnt usually use (full 3g) and charging from powerpoints i wouldnt usually use.

i know cell strength and power quality can effect battery efficiency but there must be some reason why its so bad, so suddenly?

I've had exactly the same problem, same spec of phone and exact same symptoms.

set itunes to sync everything, pics, contacts etc,
theres tools ya can use to backup sms and emails from an itunes backup

restore the phone but dont restore the backup, set up as a new phone and battery life should be a lot better
i dunno why but sometimes when ya update and restore to a backup the battery gets terrible

There was a tip on CNET's Applebyte video, the episode is called 'new iMacs coming', it's at roughly 1:52.

    http://cnettv.cnet.com/new-imacs-incoming/9742-1_53-50102338.html

Go into Settings/General/Restrictions and switch off 'Ping', apparently this is the cause of a drop in battery life in 4.3

You have to turn restrictions on and then turn ping to off. The rest will be on by default, I think.
