Hi, I burned 2 cds for a friend with some music.
I have an asus U30j laptop with windows 7, i used itunes or windows media player to burn them (forget which one)
when he plays them in a hi-fi it reads 'no disc' and also the wont play in the car.

is there a way around this if I wanted to burn them again?

    http://www.mediamonkey.com/
nero wont do it for you either because of piracy worries but this might do it, its like windows media player but it can also sync with your ipod and other devices

do you know why the hifi or car stereo wont play them in the first place?

well windows media player makes wma cds that only work on computers (meaning you can fit far more songs on a cd than normal but they don't work on cd players) but it can do normal ones aswell http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Burn-a-CD-or-DVD-in-Windows-Media-Player

and i think itunes and nero do some anti piracy thing that also stops them working on cd players too.

or it might be that the cds wrong, are you using cd-r or cd-rw?

    they are cd-wr.
what software would you suggest I use to avoid the piracy issues?

    I tried a cd-r this time.
downloaded mediamonkey seemed to burn fine but then at the end I got an Failed Burn error code 52102 (I think the numbers were)
so now I dont know what caused the burn to fail :(

Post 4. You made a data disc the first time with Windows media player, you need to make an audio one.

    I dont think so
I have the burn settings to Audio not data.
Ive never had a bother burning before for my own car.
Muy original post was because I burned it using itunes and that didnt play in car/hifi.

But Ive reburned using windows m player and media monkey and got error at the end of the burn.
Would it be one particular track causing the issue?
Its a mix of songs from various places.

How old is your car/hifi? My car is a 03 reg and while it will play directly copied CDs in WAV format, it hasn't a Scooby what an MP3 is. I've an old JVC in the kitchen (RC-X720, but it's got a better bass than anything else that I've heard in the 17 years since I bought it) which doesn't recognised burned CDs at all, but that's not a surprise.

    Its actually not for me.
A friend of mine in Sth Africa asked me to send out CDs with some decent new music for him.
Ive no idea how old his Hifi is and the car is less than 8 years anyway.
Its so annoying cos it took 4 weeks for him to get them and then they didnt work.

As ive taken songs from friends, downloads, ripped cds etc theres a mix of file types Id say, mp3,4, wma, itunes file type etc that Im trying to burn

Select 'burn audio cd' you may have it set to 'burn data cd'

    Hi,

One thing to make sure of when you are burning audio CD's especially for a car hi-fi, is keep the Burn speed less then or equal to 8x.

    8x is the standard.

i.e. Don't have it burning at max or 32x etc..
