Starting your own stock exchange

I was thinking that a lot of investors are just investing on an idea. That the trade doesn't act involve anything, just the idea itself.

So i was thinking could someone not start their own stock exchange for anything. Something like stocks in movies like http://hsx.com

But it involve real money and real investing, or even something like spread betting.

Just a thought, probably a bad one

Well, yes it could be done. Everything starts off as an idea, and the fact that there are stock exchanges, answers your question.

The problem is, how do you get companies to list, how do you offer an exchange that works - if you are in the futures market you need to guarantee every side of every trade, and much, much, much more problems. Lots of not so easily answered questions.

I think it would be almost impossible for you to start your own stock exchange in today's world, especially if you have no idea how they work. And I stress the word almost.

Tenius do you mean that individuals come together to trade imaginary shares based on the prices achieved on the real market? I think your after spread betting.

You can set up a trading market alot easier im sure. Probably a lot harder to set up a stock market but a market selling some sort of commodity would proabably be easier to set up. One of the weirdest markets ive seen was for wines. had guys trading wines just the same as a commodities trader.
