Quick query... assuming a similar spec otherwise, and a similar cost overall...which of these options is likely to result in a better performing laptop?

    Intel® CoreTM i3 380M (2.53GHz/3MB cache) with 3GB2 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz

    or

    Intel® Pentium® Dual CoreTM T4500 (2.3GHz/800Mhz FSB/1MB cache) with 4GB2 Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz

get the i3 with 3 gig of ram and upgrade to 4. RAM costs nothing these days, maybe €40 off crucial for 4 gig. If your laptop has 3 gig in it, that probably means a 2 gig and 1 gig sticks, so two slots. should easily take 4 gig and possibly 8 gig if you wanna pull the piss. (about €80 for 8 gig).

Id go i3 same reason as above its very easy to upgrade your ram its not so easy to upgrade your cpu in a laptop and it costs a lot more to upgrade then ram.

Yep, and as well that particular i3 would be over 40% faster than that pentium

Bear in mind though, that if theres only a 32 bit version of windows, it wont be able to use all 4gb of ram, only 3.5 i believe. I've a laptop with 4gb and 32bit windows, it can only use 3.43 of the 4gb

32 bit windows will only see 3gb of ram
