Painful stitch / pulled muscle?

    Hi all,

Just looking for a bit of advice or info. I started running for the first time this week. Set out on a 1.5-2km jog/run on Monday night with a group of more experienced runners. About 4/5 mins into the run (lots of stretches beforehand but no walk to warm up) I got an almighty stitch in my side. I've had stitches before but nothing like this one and it was very painful breathing and walking. I finished out the distance but had to walk it and only jogged a little bit when my pride was hurting more than the stitch!

The thing is, over 48hours later and its still paining me when I'm even just walking to the bus. I want to get another 2kms two more times this week (alone so I can walk for 2 mins, run for 2 mins, and so on at my own pace) but at the moment I don't know how I will with the pain in my side.

Could it be a pulled muscle in my ribcage rather than a stitch? If so what's the best way to let it heal while not missing out on trying to get runs in during the week?

    Thanks!

You're probably right but I don't know what a doctor would actually do or say about it.

I am due for a check up though so maybe I can save up all my ailments and get them taken care of in one go!

If anyone has any other advice I'd appreciate it too.
