Google kvernelandgroup.com. They have charts for spreading for the modern types anyway and should be able to give an indication. Or try your local vicon dealer and they will be able to get a chart in a week or so

The spout C-piece should be 29 inches above the soil/crop, the rest of the spreader should be level. A good tip is to have a toplink just for the spreader and leave it on it.

Drive as fast as the land will allow!(within reason). Aim to have the outside beads of fertiliser hitting the previous wheel track. Its trial and error for rate/acre/ha after that. Fertiliser always varies. Write down the settings as you get them: gear, fert type, (eng rev for 540 pto) and spreader settings,

Ballpark is 10 mph, 18 on the spreader and 1 bag urea acre for me.

Another tip is to put a blob of white paint on the front tyre and you can work out distance travelled by counting the blobs, only really works if you are putting out something like 4 bags per acre though. Sorry I dont have any area measurement on my tractor.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

was struggling with that last week in silage ground.., basically trial and error in an old tractor like mine(where speed dial doesn't work)..what worked for me was get a few stakes in field and mark roughly 1 acre or whatever you want, after that put the number of bags needed and stick to that area only..the first time set it low ish so if you have to go back over it is no big deal..better than having to refill your machine what would mess up all your calculations...for the second patch you do adjust it accordingly and you'll be spot on..write it down and sorted...is a bit of a pain but this way you'll get an even spread..good luck

Put out fertiliser first time in about 15 years there last year - with a tractor same as yerself Eorna, no rev counter. So I had to guess where 540 was, but that was ok.
I couldnt remember how to set the spinner, (vicon 402) so I just chanced it at 18, and away I went. It was set too low, plus, I wasnt sure of the field size, as I had made it a bit smaller than what it was... so that didnt help either...

Then, I found a wee booklet over the winter, which tells you what to set it at - given yer speed, distance between tram lines, amount you want to put out / acre and fertiliser type.

So away I went last week, and put out a bit of stuff, all confident now like...
This time, it was set too high, and I was short a bit of fertiliser. But it wasnt so bad.

leoch - how much you want to put out, distance you drive between tramlines & speed, and I'll see what the little book says.
