im getting married june next year i want the big white day without the high cost so far we have a total of 245 guests. I have priced a few venues in co clare but alot of them are coming in a 40-45 per head which i think personally is madness, any 1 got an ideas on bringing down costs?????

Re-launch your wedding in a different direction which would include a sharp trimming back on quantity of guests?

Obviously it depends on what is included but 40-45 per guest sounds pretty good.

Also bear in mind that the reception is just one cost. You may also have things like flowers, band, cars, invitations, outfits etc depending on what type of wedding you want.

In my experience the biggest factor in determining cost is the number of guests. You can scale back on everything else to suit your budget but if you have 245 guests and you want to provide a meal then its going to cost you a fair amount of money. If you can't afford it then reduce the number of guests.

1 way to reduce cost is to cut back on numbersas the above poster has mentioned. For instance I have cut out all kids from my Wedding except direct Nieces and Nephews.I think that the quote your getting is reasonable, how many courses is it for?If it's for a 5 course you could always ask how much for a 3 course! This should also reduce the cost. Congrats BTW!:D:D

Ive seen people have 3 course meals and buffets. The 3 course seemed to go down better than the buffet. Really your only option is to cut down guests, I had close to 200 at mine and after being to so many weddings through my photography I often question did I really need to have so many, the more intimate and memorable weddings I photograph are often the ones with a smaller amount of guests.

Supplier wise you can always haggle and many suppliers offer discounts for various reasons, be it a weekday or maybe for a civil service but no harm in asking for a discount if it is not offered.

You'd be very hard pushed to get anywhere half decent for less than that, it's actually a good price. I've had quotes of €70 per head in some.

Cutting numbers is the only way to go with this unless you don't want a big meal.

€40-€45 a guest sounds very reasonable to me! I'm looking at hotels in Fermanagh at the minute, and they're all much more expensive, up to £105 per person!

    What does €40-€45 include?

If you are trying to keep costs down, then you shouldn't be looking at 245 guests. Do you really need that many guests? 40-45 sounds completely reasonable / cheap, you're not gonna get cheaper than that I'd say. Any cheaper and the quality of the meal will go down ....

+1 to what's been said, a large number of guests gives you more clout when it comes to haggling with the hotel, but you'd be doing bloody well to get anything decent for less than €40....

The number of guests is the obvious starting point for reducing costs, barring that, call in every favour you can - know anybody in a band? a good photographer? someone who makes good cakes? a graphic designer/printer? etc...
