I thought my alternator was gone in my van because the engine light was constantly on and the electrics keep flashing and flickering , but am i right in sayin if this was my alternator my battery would have drained. But mysteriously it hasnt and lights have stopped flickering and seems to be running perfectly bar the engine light on dashboard occasionally coming on. As i really know little about this stuff any advice on what it could be would be great. thanks.

This is a smart charge system where alt output is ecu controlled.
Have a scan done it would lead you in the right direction, there can be problems with the control circuit wiring to the alterator.
