S+B 8x56 with no. 7 reticle. Burris Fullfield. Bushnell elite. All good scopes for reasonable money and nice in low light and darkness.

now whats reasonable money, it has to be 56 lense, cheers

A good 50mm scope is often better than a mediocre 56. One needs light and resolution, especially at night.
Variable 3-12x50 or 2.5-10x50 would be fine for lamping , starting at around 1000,- new
fixed 7x50 or 8x56 will do too. around 600,- new

The Hawke scopes are great value, middle of the range and Navan do them as do Mourne shooting... I use a 3-9 x 40 Hawke nighteye for lamping.. only around 300e... (made the amature mistake this week of leaving it on 3x while lamping and then wondered why that fox was so far away.. chance was gone when i changed it to 9x!)
Bought a Schmidt and Bender 8 x 56 second hand and really it is the dogs B*#@cks!
Clarity of vision is unreal... For Continental optic quality at a good price.. you cant go wrong with schmidt and bender for lamping

Any of the Bushnell Trophy and Elite range of scopes will fit the bill for a 223 and are good mid price range scopes. IMO.

I had a Swift Premier 6-24x50 on my Remi 700 VSF II, recently changed to a Remi SPS and put a S&B 10X42 cant believe the difference daylight and dusk fantastic . I would say hold out and watch boards for sale youll get what you want. N

Why did ya change from the vsf II to an sps if ya don't mind me asking?

I loved the look and feel if VSF, fantastic to shot but didnt realise the weight would be such a factor as I do a lot of rough shooting. Also had great intentions of joining the range in Blue Ball but never got around it. The remington SPS was a good option my local dealer David O Malley did a great deal for me in part Exchange and Scope Up-Grade, bought BELOWaverageIQ's ASE Ultra Jet-Z Compact and got the barrel thredded to match. And what a difference the Mod makes to the 223, and I do have the S on my FAC

I know of a few that trimmed 2" off a VSSF and found no diff in accuracy out to 200 yards.

I recently rebarreled mine as she was coming in on 1stone with all on, but with a heavier barrel 2 " shorter she feels and handles much better

    In regards to a scope.
Nikon 2.5-10x56 I believe is the best value for money scope for solely night lamping.

Tac, I've heard that some Monarch Nikon scopes have good light transmission values.
If one wants good German glass and 25 year guarantee, Kaps are very keenly priced and maybe a well kept secret.
The 2.5-10x50 or 2.5-10x56 are around 850 Euro. Good solid hunting scope.

Any decent places around to buy a Nikon Edi?

    lb1981,
sorry don't know who stocks them.

Looks as though they are min 500 Euro also.
If you ever want to have a look through a Kaps scope your'e welcome. I'll probably be selling an illuminated 2.5-10x50 (1/2 year old) that I've been using for stalking as I might upgrade to a tacticl scope from that company.

My mate got one a couple of years ago for his 220 swift and is very happy with it.
    Got it from www.theopticzone.com
It will work out a lot cheaper importing from the USA even after paying vat etc than buying in the UK.
Dollar rate is good at the moment.

Keep me posted Edi if you decide to sell that. The .223 is in getting threaded for that Roedale mod now so should be out doing some damage with this weekend.
