    Hi Lads,
Myself and my missus are looking at Mexico, belize and Guatemala for a honeymoon in August. The plan is to spend a week in Cancun then do a 10 day tour down through Belize and into Guatemala, finishing in Antigua. Does anybody know much about Antigua as a city? Is there much to see there? Is it worth spending the last few days of the honeymoon there or better off heading back to Cancun? If so is there a bus service that runs direct?

    Any info much appreciated

Did you go on this trip? Thinking of doing the exact same trip

I did it a few years ago. Good trip. Started in Cancun then tulum, flores and tikal, seman chapac, guatemala city, arequipa, lake attilan then flew guatemala city to flores and went to some town in belize and then to caye caulker. Flew into cancun and out of belize via newark.

most of the spellings there are probably wrong as it was a few years ago. Thought tulum was over rated. Flores and tikal, caye caulker and lake atilan / arequipa were all amazing.

This is an incredible part of the world, you'll have an amazing time. I was there last summer.

In Mexico, we stayed in Tulum for a couple of days. It was nice, beaches were lovely and ruins good but not a huge amount to do. I haven't heard great things about Cancun but I guess you just want to relax and lie on a beach for a while so I'm sure you'll find a nice resort for that.

After that head to Caye Caulker in Belize, it's a really chilled out island with lots of bars, really cheap lobster and there's good diving there if you're into that.
Avoid Belize city and head straight to Guatemala, San Ignacio inland is a good stop in Belize if you want to tubing or caving or anything like that.

Flores in Guatemala is a pretty little island and a great base to get to Tikal. Tikal was one of the highlights for me, it is incredible. It is well worth going on the early trip so you can explore before it gets too hot. It means a four am start but you'll be glad you did it.

I would save a good chunk of time for Lake Attitlan, it is probably the most beautiful place I have ever been and lovely to while away a few days soaking in the views and exploring the different villages.I would have loved to stay longer there.

Antigua is pretty, I wasn't overly taken with it. There isn't a whole lot to do, we did a coffee tour which we really enjoyed but in general its a place for strolling around. Save your shopping for here, lots of markets and nice craft stores!

It is easy enough to get around but it takes time. It might be worth looking into flying back to Cancun from Guatemala city to save you a few days on buses.

    Enjoy!!!

I quite liked antigua and went up a volcano nearby which had a lava river you could cook off
