Thats a very nice deal OP, really is, especially considering theres a graphics card and all!

I got a Q330 (13" version) last month and i think its a very nice laptop, very well built and nice to look at, this would be the same except the better graphics take from the battery life a small bit

Great spec laptop for that price. The post above is bit worrying but probably wouldn't deter me from getting it if I had the money.

It'd come with a recovery disk anyways and you can reinstall using this.

I doubt it does tbh. I haven't seen a laptop with recovery disks in quite a while. It would have a recovery partition, but i'd hazard a guess that once you reinstall using the recovery partition it would reinstall all the crapware that was there originally. You'd have to get your hands on a Windows 7 disk and reinstall using that me thinks.

    +1

I was reading up there on this keylogger, it's called Starlogger and is actually easy enough to get rid of with the normal anti-virus, antimalware scanners, still though....people try to be so careful with there personal info with all the scams nowadays and it's these gits that are selling it on. Or it's the banks losing unencryted CDs or people's health records turning up in fields after being thrown in the rubbish by the HSE.

    Key-ristttt, you can't win.

30 day trial of starlogger on cnet.

Samsung laptops definitely don't come with a recovery disk. I heard of someone having to pay £47 to get one from samsung support.

    Cheers Zonda!

Apart from the keylogger issue, this seems to be a decent laptop? Looking for a new laptop asap..not that knowledgeable re specs etc..

The keylogger story is false as it turns out.

    Official response from Samsung apparently

    http://www.samsungtomorrow.com/1071

On a completely unrelated note heres some details on the graphics card. It doesn't look capable for an out and out gamer but on low settings it seems to be able to play most of the more intensive modern games.

Sure you can just download a copy of windows 7 off a torrent site and use the key that came with the laptop, if there's no sticker on the laptop telling you the key im sure there's a way to find it in your current install through windows or third party software. Nothing illegal in that, it's your key and you have a right to have a copy of your disc.

    FAIL :

"The whole saga was caused by a false alarm of the VIPRE Antivirus product. Apparently VIPRE detects the StarLogger keylogger by searching for the existance of a directory called "SL" in the root of the Windows directory. This is a bad idea."

Which is better between the samsung and this: http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/HP_Pavilion_DV6-3065ea_964266.html

Ill be using it for college work such as photoshop, word, CSS etc and your typical itunes, firefox etc. Are Hp laptops reliable?

But I like the sound of the HP having brushed aluminum on it, does anyone know if its like the macbook pro in that sense?

When i got a laptop from them in February, ordered on a Sunday night and it got here on the Wednesday. That was to Cork though, could be quicker for the east of the country possibly

I'd say this offer will be up soon as it has being running for a while.

After much deliberation I got the Q330 instead...seems a bit slicker plus it has bigger hard drive and better battery life. I’m not too pushed about the graphics card and I'd prefer a 13.3 inch laptop.

The Q330 was on offer as well about 2 weeks ago, I missed out but I picked one up on the clearance section for £399.

Anyway I should have it by Tuesday.

Good video review here of the Q330: http://www.trustedreviews.com/video/Samsung-Q330

Just ordered one of these, with my visa debit card, 452 euro total, very happy with that, seems a lot cheaper then anywhere else i have seen!

This should be a very good upgrade from a netbook with an Atom Cpu and ION Gpu, will be nice to have the Optical drive too.

    Thanks to the OP! :)

Just got an email from them saying there was a problem with the order and to call them. When I did, the guy said they just wanted to confirm that I existed due to my card being Irish, or something. Hopefully all is well :)

    Balls to this anyway.
I was eyeing this laptop before Christmas but went with a Toshiba for about 800 instead. That Samsung is a nice looking laptop. Would have snapped it up at this price. :(

It seems to be standard procedure with them. This is the 2nd laptop I've bought off them and they sent that email both times. Everything went smooth though.

Only problem with this laptop is that I bought it as a present so won't get to see it in action til the weekend.

Same here - was on hold for about 10 minutes, but once through to them he was really efficient and the Laptop shipped about an hour later.

Happy days! Thanks for this OP :)

I was also looking at this Asus, the reviews all seem to be for the UL-30A-QX131 whereas this is a UL-30A-Qx328. Is there a difference? In the past I've known slight variations in model numbers, from TVs to cars, to make a big difference in performance and the huge cut in price makes me suspicious.

Its quite hard to get a laptop with really good speakers TBH. FRom the reviews of this the sound quality is good but they are not overly loud. If you want good sound you'll have to connect to an external speaker system/booster.

    These might help

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

Yeah, on the Q330, they're ok but completely lacking in bass, obviously. Okay for the odd youtube clip but couldnt possibly live with them for general listening, luckily the sound quality through the headphone jack is very good IMO

More importantly for me, what's the fan noise like on them? My Macbook sounds like it's about to take off and launch itself into space, almost constantly. Can't stand it :pac:

    [edit]

On the Q330 anyway, its extremely quiet, almost silent. Certainly much quieter than the Acer 5715Z i had before this. Are the fans comparable though, given the graphics card in the Q430? Forgive me if thats a stupid statement, my technical knowledge only goes so far! :)

The Q330 is upgradeable to 8gb so it certainly is!

It's weird though, this model does not appear on Crucial UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 63 ✭✭HomeBoyDeluxe

Just received mine a couple of hours ago, doing a fresh Win 7 Install right now, when i turned it on, there was around 25 minutes of waiting for setup and samsung software to load, so i went straight for the re-install!

Yes it can handle 8GB RAM, SO DIMM, only 42 euro per 4GB stick on dabs, i think the advantages over 4GB would be fairly un-noticeable, could be wrong though.

As for fan noise, pretty much in-audible so far. :)

    coldfire1x wrote: »

So yeah, it's quieter than my Macbook usually is. In fact it's almost silent at idle, but when the fan does kick in, there's a brief whine as it spins up, just like when you start reading a CD or DVD on most machines.

Seems like a lovely machine so far, but by god do Samsung load it up with some amount of 3rd party software, with "Easy SpeedUp Manager" (this might actually be useful), "Easy Network Manager", "Easy Prostate Exam Manager" etc. Also McAfee with a 60 day trial period or something, which had no "cancel" option, only "register now" or "ask later"
Counted over 10 icons for 3rd party software on the desktop after logging in.

Just wish I'd ordered a carry bag for it :)
