I read in thw metro that Gilroy is going to announce a new captain for the championship. Who will be the contenders and who should be it?

Well Casey has been captain so i expect he will stock with him unless he doesn't feel he can maintain a starting place.

Barry Cahill will probably be my choice but again will he nail down a place at midfield. Cluxton could be a good choice as well IMO.

    I'd elect Barry Cahill,Bryan Cullen,Stephen CluxtonMossy Quinn.

Barry Cahill - midfield player and experienced.Whether he plays there or as a half back,he will always move forward in search of the odd score.

Bryan Cullen - Same applies. Can play as a half back or a half forward.Shows great leadership skills.Always gives it 100%.

Stephen Cluxton - Kickouts are hugely important especially when midfield aren't clicking. Can shout instructions to the full back line.

Mossy Quinn - Free kick taker and doing very well at the moment. Is a seasoned player.Links up well especially with Connolly and Brogan.

would make Cluxton captain,12th season on panel ,Think Cullen,Cahill or Brennan would be good captain too

Think cluxton is a good keeper but not suitable as a capt. Has been volitile in the past remember Armagh

That was 8 years ago when Cluxton got sent off,his matured a lot since and has gone on to be one of the top keepers in the country

This was one incident in 2003, you can hardly hold that against him forever!

Sorry but I gotta chip in and add to what has already been said.I think Cluxton is the best keeper in the country and certainly suitable as a candidate for captain. He is the most consistent and his kickouts are crucial. Can even pop up and score the odd long range free/45.

I think however there'd be a better chance of an outfield player receiving it and I think Cullen ticks all the boxes.

Alan Brogan...didn't do anything wrong when he was captain last time!

would have to be somebody who is guaranteed to start, and there are very few of them: cluxton and bernard brogan are the only two who fit that bracket. says a lot about dublins strength in depth when only 2 players are guaranteed starters every game.

Doubt he'll get the captaincy now!

That will have no bearing on him being captain at all.

What has something that happened in another sport got to do with him being Dublin GAA captain???

What a strange assumption that this would make any difference

Fair play to Cluxton, even more reason to give him the captaincy, hes a born winner,McAteer kicked out at him first so cant blame Cluxton for reacting.

Would want Cluxton as my captain over the likes of Paul Griffin anyday
