Protein shakes on non-workout days

I'm taking 2 shakes per day on my work out days. My diet is pretty awesome and I'm eating really clean food. I'm really noticing a difference and I'm starting to bulk up very nicely. On days when I don't work out I reduce the number of shakes to 1. Should I be taking 2 shakes on non workout days? I do heavy weights training every second day.

    Thanks!

I would agree with gymsoldier. On non weights days, if you have worked hard enough, then your body should still be repairing, strengthening and building muscle. For this a supply of protein and possibly other nutrients is required.

I am not saying that you should take two shakes, but I think that if you calculate that you need Xg of protein per day for you body weight/lean mass, then this should be the amount of protein you eat each day, whether you lift weights, do cardio or rest.

Just my 2c and the approach I use. On workout days whether weights or cardio my calorie intake in the same. On rest days I drop my carb intake and maybe fat a little.

It'd the total protein that matters, not where it comes from.
Everone thinks their diet is better than it is. Me included

I think my biggest diet failure is not eating enough vegatables.

Cheers lads. I'll continue to take 2 shakes on non workout days.

Typical diet for me would be:

    Breakfast
    2 hard boiled eggs, broccoli.

    snack
    Protein Shake

    Lunch
2 chicken breasts, Wholewheat Pasta, mushrooms and onions.

    Snack
1 can of tuna, half a can of sweet corn, 2 apples

    <workout>
    Post-workout Protein Shake

    Dinner
    2 large salmon fillets, broccoli

Youre macros arent the best for a bulk, thats more a cut youre on. And even at that, its not the best.

    So back to this quote:

Well, I am only 5ft 4 so I imagine I don't need as much as someone who is 6ft 4.

    What would you improve? :)

You're much better focussing your energy on training hard and getting enough rest in between your workouts*

If as you say, "you're bulking up nicely", I'd recommend you keep doing what you're doing. If it ain't broke....

There is no "perfect" way of eating.

    * I'm assuming the quality of both your training and sleep are equally awesome.

I use Milk with every protein shake instead of water.

Simply because I like it so much and its pretty heavy in cals.

If I used water instead of milk with each shake I take, Id have 500 less cals a day. Id also get 32 less g of protein but atm Im trying to lose weight so its not really helping on the carb front/cal front.

    Super food though imo.

Ah right, yeah it's not a good idea to drink buckets of it when trying to lose weight!!

    I'm on 2 litres a day.

I imagine your goals are different (he is trying to cut).
In that case 2 litres is nothing really

    lollerpops.

Im on a litre a day and Im trying to cut. I usually have one in the morning and one around training.

Gonna start using water though. The milk was just for the first 10 days because Id a feeling too little calories would affect my recovery from training(3gym session, 2 soccer training sessions and a match) so I had them with milk not water.

Will just go back to water now until I feel a bit of lag again.

I was on water for ages, started back with milk recently and its so so so much better.
I'll be switching to water again for the cut soon. i'm the same, polish a litre too easily. I litre of milk = my deficit for the day.

Screw it, its 3pm, time for snack shake

You could always use skimmed milk or half milk half water?
