    FAS Executive charged with fraud(2009)
A Fas executive was yesterday charged with defrauding more than €600,000 from the scandal-hit state training agency.

James Brooke-Tyrell, from Greystones, Co Wicklow, faced 47 charges of deception and attempted deception after billing the beleaguered organisation for films.

The 53-year-old was remanded on bail after a brief hearing in Dublin District Court.

Mr Brooke-Tyrell, a video production manager, was a grade seven Fas employee tasked with film-making to promote and market the agency at home and abroad and recording its work. He was charged at the Bridewell garda station with billing Fas head office on Dublin's Baggot Street with false invoices for films which never existed.

    FAS executive jailed (2011)
A former assistant manager at FÁS has been sentenced to four years in prison, with the last two suspended for defrauding the agency of over €600,000 between 2003 and 2008.

James Brooke Tyrrell, 54, of Church Road, Greystones, Co Wicklow, had pleaded guilty to nine sample counts.

Judge Pat McCartan suspended the final two years of the sentence, but said the court must send out a message to others in a position of trust that if they breach that trust, they must expect the full rigour of the law to be brought to bear on them.

Who is this a small victory for? The tax payer has to put this toss pot up now because he was pissing the tax payers money away for years due to FAS being a farce.

Everybody's a loser in my opinion.

Is any of it being reclaimed? Or does he get to go back to it all when he's out in 4 years?

2 years suspended and 2 years in prison for stealing €600,000.00 is a joke. No mention of him paying the money back.

If I read it right he still has a Fas pension.

...which they're trying to get off him, though whether thats possible or not, I wouldn't know.

He owes the state 600k yet apparently is in receipt of funds from the state at the same time. If it is difficult to remedy this then whatever is preventing it from being remedied is what needs to be changed. CAB should be taking a look at his affairs in my view.

He got Jail while John O'Donaghue ran away with himself and state money!
He got another job, another pension, more perks and a lump sum for having the indignity to have to move jobs.

There's no equal fcukin' justice in this country.

FÁS use those idiotic slave labour schemes, we kill one of theirs, I'm a happy man.

Had he done the same thing in China, his organs would have been harvested, and then he would have been strung up.

It must be time to do a bit of out-sourcing.

You might be one of those people who think Irish prisons are a walk in the park. For some hardened scumbags maybe they are, but a soft touch like this guy the next 2 years of his life will be hell and I think it will be money well spent on the tax payers part.
