I'm not sure about that particular town, but Nerja down the road will be teaming with people and has a fair few restaurants, as well as bars that go till the usual 6/7 am. If you go out there have a look for the slightly hidden plaza tutti fruti, it is a little square with about 8 bars ringing it . If you have a car you can even pop across to Dunnes Stores in about 20 mins in case you get home sick :)

There is also Cantarriján, La Herradura. A beach with a bar and , ahem, slightly more natural views.

Would Nerja be suitable for a group of young lads? Would like to go somewhere with a good nightlife, but want to avoid the usual Irish/English hotspots if possible.

Was down there recently, but not at tourist peak season. Nerja is nice but would get packed during peak season. But it is in no way an obnoxious resort town. It's a pleasant place with some social buzz about the place. Not somewhere for a bunch of marauding lads on the pull, though. Totally different would be the inland towns of Ronda and Frigiliana. More for a quiet, chillout type vibe, but still social things to do.

Believe it or not, Málaga is really, really nice. It's a working city, but very pleasant with a great nightlife where, one would hope, the dregs from adjacent Torremolinos and Fuengirola don't make it in. Some lovely out-of-the-way tapas bars serving real local fare.
