Stupid question about chain sizes for single-speed

I need to buy a new chain and it's been so long that I can't remember what size it was.

It's a heavy chain (i.e. heavier than my Trek hybrid derailleur chain). Does that mean it's a 1/8"? Sheldon Brown actually recommends using a 3/32" because it's more forgiving of a bad chainline.

My rear wheel sprocket is a Miche track cog (considerable thicker/wider than my standard BBB front sprocket).

Unfortunately, I removed one too many links from my chain, and if I remember correctly, there's no chance getting the extra one back on?

There are only two sizes, 1/8" and 3/32".

"Heavy" chain suggests 1/8", yes, as does your rear sprocket if it is wider than the front chainring.

In any case a 1/8" chain will work whatever you currently have for chainring and sprocket. 3/32" will only work if both your chainrings and sprocket are 3/32". So you can't use that with your current rear sprocket (front chainring sounds OK.)

And getting a link back on a chain when the rivet is already gone? (One hope is I do have the spring link ...

if its too short, there's not a lot you can do, unless you've a few re-usable links you can string together

There should be no problem putting the extra link back onto the chain, provided you haven't lost the pin. I would imagine if it is a 1/8" chain, it will be a little easier than a narrower chain to re-connect.
