I was out for a walk today and for some reason charity 252 came into my head, I wonder why RTE never did a second series of it?

I imagine it was just a one off at the time to publicise the launch of RTE Radio 1 on 252LW (Previously occupied by Atlantic 252 and Teamtalk)

If I remember correctly it was held during the week leading up to the people in need telethon and all proceeds went to that fund.

I recall Emma O'Driscoll (from Popstars band Six) being on it. I can't think who else took part though

    It was seriously bizarre.
The idea that novices would take over a frequency, that almost covered both Ireland and the UK, must have sounded crazy to the UK listeners who didn't have a clue what was going on.

I remember Charity 252. I think it took place over a week from Mornington House, the building that had previously housed Atlantic 252. Some of it was televised - a bit of the celebrity reality show type thing.

As a matter of fact, most of them made a damn good stab at presenting and most availed of the opportunity to play their favourite music, and some were quite passionate about that.

Eileen Reid (of the Cadets fame) was, indeed, the ultimate winner. Like Big Brother, people were voted out as the week went in...at least, I think there were votes.

I don't think Twink was involved in this one.

    Other names included :
Emma O'Driscoll (of Six). She got a radio gig out of it in fact, with Limerick's Live 95FM, before RTE's "The Den" beckoned!

Sorcha Furlong - She is an actress and plays the part of Orla in Fair City.

Blathnaid Ni Coffey - I think that this gave her more of a profile than she had prior to this.

Clare McKeown - Of all the contestants she had probably the most broadcasting experience and had been a presenter on a number oF radio stations and on TV. Ironically, she was kicked out early on. But, of course, there was the radio and TV reality aspect to the project.

Amanda Brunker - She is a well-known social columist and, arguably, self-publicist. I thought she aquitted herself quite well, even though she had previously irratated me.

They were all women who took part, isn't that right? I came up with six names, but did I forget anyone, or maybe that's all of them now.

Im pretty sure its a house near the RTE campus they used not mornington house, that was bought by meath co co back in late 2002. I think pamala flood was on it too. It was a clever idea and its shame that rte didnt consider doing it again

Fiona McShane was number seven.....I had forgotten that the show was presented by Gerry Ryan.
