Could someone give me a ballpark idea of value for a Nikon D40?

It's not been getting much use (I bought it for my better half two years ago when she expressed an interest in photography but that's kinda fallen by the wayside).

There's none on adverts that I could find. If it's not worth much I'll hang onto it and try to learn how to use it though most of the functions are beyond me atm :)

I have one and wouldnt sell it. It has a hybrid shutter, which means unlimited flash sync speed if you are into your photography.

But its value.. max 200 if its in top order with the 18-55 kit lens, manual etc

    Is it a D40 or D40X?

Its not worth a lot, probably 30% of what you originally paid for it. But its a good camera and if you have the 18-55 VR lens, its a great camera to get started on. 6mp is plenty, will give you enough to make 8x10 prints no problem. It also weighs nothing, and since its a returned gift (sort of), its free, (sort of). Have at it.
