Looks like Notion Ink finally resolved all sorts of shipping an custom problems and all pre order 2 systems are currently in transit.

Just wondering if any boardsies out there have already received their Adams and what are the duty/import taxes like on the LCD and PQi variants. I am currently awaiting a PixelQi WiFi model which left China last night.

Reading about other users of the system it looks like application of the shipped screen protector and installation of EdenX is a must from the start

Finally got this Android tablet delivered to me yesterday evening. On paper the tech specs are impressive

    http://www.notionink.com/techspecs.php

Tegra processor, lots of memory, capacitive display. Took it out of the box and powered on. Factory ROM (called Eden) is based on Froyo but is unusable in my opinion. Then tried a community version of it called EdenX but did not like that either. Too much work gone into trying to put everything in panels and windows and its not for me. Downloaded a ROM called 'the beast' and bingo I had a useable system with market access.

Had a hell of a job to get wireless working. Poor reception and required a reboot of my wireless router. Still not happy with wireless reception but hopfully will be sorted with an upgrade.

Copied on some videos, would not play, Googled it, have to use QQPlayer. Something else did not work, googled it, fixed it. There is a trend here.....

I have a Samsung Galaxy S running Darkys ROM which is super responsive. Adam is not there yet, not really laggy more it sometime misses button pushes.

This morning I was about to put it on eBay but its starting to grow on me. ITS NOT for someone who whats a ready to go tablet. However if WiFi improves and some annoying stuff with the GUI is sorted its an interesting alternative to the big names.

So Hows this working out for you now? I had a pre order but couldn't pay as I got a master card and not a visa or American express :S so I missed out as it got cancelled!

I see one on ebay so might swing for that.

hows the screen for ebooks and such?

    Good Points
    - Plenty of storage.
    - Responsive and fast
    - Access to android market with custom rom (Beasty)
    - PQi screen allows for use outdoors.
    - As a book reader its good. I mostly used it on trains so had backlight on

    Bad Points
    - Bigger than a Xoom or iPad but its still a true tablet
    - Wireless reception not strong. Hoping it could be fixed with a ROM update
    - Standby mode eats battery. Caught me out twice when I was due to fly to UK. Wanted to use it on the plane only to find battery was drained from been on standby over night. Luckly power up is a quick process so no harm in switching it off at night

I was originally going to get a Kindle DX but when I found out it didn't have Wi-Fi, I decided to look elsewhere. I then had thoughts on getting the Sony PRS-950, but then I found the Adam and thought "I'll have you!" Now all I need to do is wait until I can order it. I already put my name in to be one of the lucky few when the next batch of orders are available so here's hoping I get one. I'm planning on getting one with a Pixel Qi screen so I can use it primarily as an eBook reader, even though its screen isn't as good as the Kindle or PRS-950; I've seen a lot of comparisons so I'm aware of its screen quality.

Cheers for your impressions delynet. Have you compared the Adam to a Kindle or similar eReader and, if so, what are your thoughts? Also, what do you think on the Pixel Qi screen; is it really not that great that you needed to use the backlight when reading eBooks?

The background on the Kindle is grey almost white

The background on PQi screen is a bit darker with a hint of green. My experience is that its for outdoor or just inside a window. I used it with backlight off on a train recently

I really like Engadget and visit the site every day but even I can see how evident their bias towards Apple products is. This isn't in reference only to their low score of the Adam, but their high scores for practically every Apple device regardless of whether the device is only average or has obvious missing features that a competitor's product has.

Anyway, the Adam is a great device and I look forward to one day owning one. Hopefully they don't release a 2nd generation Adam just after I get mine as I'd most likely end up buying both!
