PS3 Help Please

    Hey

    I bought a second hand ps3 today in Game. But its a really old firmware 2.43. So any game i try wont play without updating, but whenever i go to update, from the internet,, or storage device the machine just hangs and freezes at the please wait stage, doesnt look like anything is happening and i have to switch the ps3 off to get it restarted. Its awkward for me to get the ps3 back to the shop, is this a known issue and is it fixable>?

    If you were trying to update off the internet directly i'd think there was some network problems, but as you're trying over usb then i'd say the first step is to do a full format and if that does not work return it.

    better than being at a loss with a faulty PS3.

    As Varik says download it onto a USB stick from here :

    http://ie.playstation.com/ps3/support/system-software/detail/item352012/Update-features-%28ver-3-60%29/

    Make a folder on the USB stick called "PS3"
    Make a folder in the "PS3" folder called "UPDATE"
    Put the downloaded file in there.

    Then on the playstation Update via Storage media.

    thanks guys for the suggestions, tried all of the suggested but it still freezes on me. I will just have to bring it back to game so :)

    well as it turns out, Game sold me a british refurbished machine. I brought it back and the guy told me that they dont sell the consoles they take in on trade, they all get shipped to the uk and then sent out to other stores etc, but the one i got had a Console Doctor sticker on it and a third party black case without the playstation 3 logo on it.

    He apologised but to anyone buying a second hand one from game, check it before you leave the store
