Hi, I'm new to the legal field and I was wondering if it is possible to find Central Criminal Court judgements anywhere? I notice that most of the online resources don't carry these judgements and I have an interest in Criminal Law cases. Any help would be greatly appreciated

it's unusual for the Central Criminal Court to give a written judgement given that the substantial decision (on whether an accused is guilty or innocent) is made by a jury

There are a couple of central criminal court decisions on courts.ie

    such as:
    http://www.courts.ie/judgments.nsf/6681dee4565ecf2c80256e7e0052005b/f71cb26fa6fe5cd9802573db00554c83?OpenDocument

I have searched the Courts.ie database for news of a particular trial of an ex neighbour but it is not showing me much. All I see is DPP versus mr X and in brackets it says (list to fix dates) but this has happened four different times in April, May , June and July. Will transcripts of the trial be available anywhere as it happens or after it happens ? I would like to know what type of sentence Mr X receives and anything else that was said. How can I find out when the trial begins ? Why are there four entries on the courts website (central criminal court) which merely say : ''List to Fix Dates'' ?

The case is awaiting a date for hearing, it will get a hearing next at the list to fix dates, it's listing each time is to progress the case. Any citizen is entitled to sit in on any trial (as long as its not incamera). I do not believe transcripts are available to the general public.

Transcripts are only provided by the Registrar to a party interested in an appeal or application for leave to appeal.

Rarely, a judge might include part of the transcript in his written judgement (if any).

FOI does not apply to court transcripts.

Do I just keep checking until it says on the website that there is a date for the actual trial ? (Instead of it just saying its to fix dates?)

Yes at some stage the case should get a date for hearing. I am assuming as its in the Central its a very serious case, it could even be reported in the press that the hearing is commencing.

garda told me in february that the case will hopefully be held in June yet there is no mention of it on courts.ie

Is there any reason why a case would not appear there ?
