I read their site. Its not classified as a race, so the distance may not be correct.

    Now this looks like fun

Agree it looks like fun. They have a special lane for the committed runner so looks well organised.

Going to give it a go.

Cheers for that Shane. I see it now. It was the FAQs that threw me off thinking that the race may not be measured accurately.

Maybe late night races might catch on.

I think I want to do this one. The Leixlip 5K is on the same day but this sounds more appealing.

Or am I just losing the plot altogether :)

25 Euros + Booking fee is a bit steep considering you get six 5k's for 30 Euros in the Galway 5k series.

Its not worth it just to run in the dark if you ask me, yes it's for a charity but so is the 5k in Salthill on the 19th of March for 12.50

I was at it last year and it was excellent, really cool being in the Park at that hour and a great atmosphere :D

Have not recovered from a knee injury yet but may down down there just to have a look. May be ok to walk some of it anyway.

Currently fence-sitting regarding this one. I haven't registered for it, must check when online entries close. I need to go make myself do 5k on Sat and Sunday this weekend anyway so I guess this would be as good a place as any. Not sure I will agree at about 3.30am when the alarm goes off on Sat morning :)

Especially if it is raining :)

I'm looking into doing this too. Agree that the price is a bit steep but it is for a very good cause after all.

With regard to running in the dark. Any time I've done that before has always been on suburban streets where there are plenty of street lights. I know the roads in the Phoenix Park where this is taking place and when it's dark, they are DARK! There is a mention on the website about participants bringing a torch.

Would people here recommend using a head torch or anything? I have a cheap-ish 'Energiser' head torch that I keep in the boot of the car in case of a night time flat tyre etc. - Would that be sufficient?

    Thanks!

For running on roads any cheap head torch is entirely sufficient (as long as you don't run out of battery, obviously). It's when you get off road that you need a decent one.

Just back from a run in Lees Road. Organisers setting up the course, will be there to collect registrations from 03:00 and hope to kick off between 4:15 to 4:30.

Young fella (10) is mad keen to do this so he's gone to bed all excited, no lie in for me tomorrow:eek:

Lets hope the promised rain stays away.

Just heading off to this now. Woke up about 40 mins ago - it was lashing rain!

So did this last night in Clare. No rain which was nice

There was quite a big turnout ~500 i would guess.

    Great atmosphere at the start

Great banter with one of the Rose of Tralee finalist for clare and her escort who arrived in tux and dress with high hells. He however abandoned her halfway and ran it while she completed walking in high heels and all over a trail course:eek:

Young fella ran the whole lot with me without stopping in 28:30 which is brilliant given he is not in a running club or has ran anything near this long before.

Runners where allowed to complete the course twice if they so wished.

Great spread at the finish, tea, coffee, choc muffims and Hot dogs and plenty of them.

A big thank you to all the support staff, Marshall's and people who light up the darker parts of the woods for us.

it's really darkness at the starting Lane, also few of gals have fell tumble cos hit grass hole or curves tiny hill in starting lane , but overall it really good atmosphere

and really awe to see run from Darkness to Dawn, and couldn't believed to see many young deers roaming around park in closer encounter..

the weather is really kind to us :-) and food and crowd of people is great.. overall it's good to have run 4:30am like that

also important it's goes to good cause...

Did the one in Galway Saturday morning, it was good for a fun run, there was a nice crowd there for that time in the morning. There wasn't too many running it all, the distance was about 4k rather than 5k, so you'd have been disappointed if you were taking it seriously. In fairness though, the crowd organising it stated a few times that it was not a race and it was just something fun. This is something that's missing from other runs, if it's not accurate or being taken seriously, just tell us and we won't expect more!!
Anyways, the drinks and hot dogs at the end were lovely and the crowd organising it couldn't have been nicer. The concept is cool, it's always nice to see the sunrise, plus it's for charity. I'll do it again next year and encourage more to join me.
