Speeding fine from Belgium

    Hi Guys,

I was in Belgium at the start of the month and rented out a car, looks like I got Zapped! The letter is in dutch so I can't make a lot of sense of it, but it looks like I was caught doing 132km/h on the 120km motorway, with a fine of €30.

There is no "inter-points" system in place yet is there? And how will this effect future car rentals? Or can I just pay the fine and carry on as normal?

    Cheers.

Pay and carry on as normal.

I think the rental company usually pays this though and re-charges you (with fees)?

Thanks for the reply, yeah it looks like that's what they meant on the letter, that they have paid the fine and where charging my CC with a fine handling fee.

I had a similar experience a while back in Spain. Just pay the fine and there's no issue with points or future car rental. If you don't pay it, you'll probably be hit with a late fee and an admin fee from the car rental company.

I've been snapped twice in rental cars in two different countries and both times they went after the rental company who then just charged my card with the fine.

Irish reg is different. OP is in a rental and the credit card company has his credit card and his signature saying they can recharge all fines.

Ah nothing to worry about so! Cheers lads.

I'll let them take the 30 quid off the card (well they'd do it anyway!) and be done with that. :)

It might be the case, but you won't know exactly until you understand what's written in letter.

When I was renting a car in Poland, in terms and conditions of rental, it was stated, that they can charge me 30 euros for disclosing my details to police or local authority in case I got caught with any speed cameras.
Then police or local authority which has my details can issue me with a fine then.

It can be the same case in here.
Maybe they just charged you 30 quid for disclosing your details, and then you will get a fine from Belgium police separately.
Or maybe they won't bother sending it, as it was just 12km over the limit.

But if they do, according to their fines schedule, you should be fined 60 euros for speeding by 12km on motorway.

Ah that could be it, I'll put the letter into Google Translate or such later and get a better picture, I'm not really annoyed about paying the fine anyway, If I was done for speeding I was done! As long as there's no points I'm happy to keep it all above water!
