Okane there not really on the Swimleinster calender, they would be sort of extras and long distance, one or two are very short. Although a good few swimmers who compete in the Swimleinster calendar swim those long distances. None of the above, afaik will qualify you towards the Liffey/Dun Laoghaire swims.

The Swimleinster calender was discussed in Feb, so details should be up soon enough, maybe end of april if not sooner...

I would like to try some sea swims, have never swam apart when a little nipper, any idea where a total novice would start ?

Maybe the best thing to do is find a open water club with regular pool training sessions - they'll be able to help with training & give advice about the sea swims.

There are lots of clubs around the country you can find details on Swim Ireland website - www.swimireland.ie,
    For Leinster: http://www.swimleinster.com/OpenSea/opensea.htm
    For the Cork area: http://www.corkmasters.ie/

Not trying to be smart or anything but...Begin in the pool. Then try a short open water swim in sheltered waters (eg Docklands Liffey Swim June 4th at 12 noon - a nice easy 1200m). See how you get on with that as there is a huge difference between pool and open water. Then try a longer one in more open water such as Killiney.

Munster area swims are kept updated on the sandycoveswimmers.com website. Our official season started last weekend with the Union Hall to Glandore swim. Looking forward to a nice long summer of events now!
