Extracting contacts from backup file

I stupidly put my iphone through the washing machine, and with it all my contacts were cleansed.

I thought most of my contacts were backed up on my SIM but I've found out the hard way when I inserted it into another phone that I have nothing.

I get a new iphone and do a restore; easy; except I don't want to get a new iphone so how do I extract or restore the contacts from the backup file.

when ya connect the new iphone it will ask do ya want to set up as a new phone or restore to backup, pick the backup and ya might get the numbers back
i'm not sure if ya have to set them to sync

I'd sync them with your gmail/yahoo account if I were you... I did some awful messing with csv importing and the likes but having all my contacts in my gmail acc as well if anything goes wrong is dead handy..

It definetly will, cause that's how I got my numbers from my previous iphone onto the washed iphone. The problem is I don't want to get a new iphone. So I don't have an iphone to sync to "get the backup"

Do you know how do I do that without an iphone? All I have is the backup file?
