If reading and patience were drugs, wouldn't you try them OP? G'wan. What have you got to lose. Beware of the withdrawal symptoms though. <shudders>

Not exactly, but people have used it quite succesfully when studying for exams etc. It's basically a stimulant and so used short term makes everything "sharper" and lowers fatique etc. Doesn't make you any smarter though.
Google nootropics - there are dozens of "smart drugs"

half a pint of beer injested 15 minutes before 2 hours of study will help you focus and retain more useful information.

From what I gather, the concept of the film is based around the claim that we only use a small percentage of our brain's power - say 10% - and the drug in question unlocks the hitherto unused part of our mind, conferring the user with superhuman intelligence. This notion that we're only using a fraction of our mental capabilities is basically a myth, so that's that out the window.

There are a class of drugs called nootropics that are designed to enhance cognitive function, though it hasn't been conclusively determined if they work to any great extent.

Then you have drugs like speed. They don't enhance intelligence per se, but they do allow one to focus intently on a task for a prolonged period of time. Pharmaceutical-grade amphetamines like Adderall are popular amongst college students around exam time for this reason.

I don't really know what effects Ritalin would have on a normal human mind.

hmm, so what approved nootropics are available in Ireland, and I'm sure you wouldn't get them by going to your doc and telling them you have an exam coming up and you have to cram?! What would them sort of drugs be prescribed for?
See I do have to exams coming up, and sure a few beers and a few nootropics would not go a miss I suppose...

There's a new company called "onnit" claiming to have developed the best nootropics on the market. I dunno, I suspect it's bull**** for the most part, but the idea's interesting. I plan to look into it properly when I get a chance

I saw this film a few weeks ago. He took drugs & turned into a know-it-all, arrogant, annoying prick.

    So, yeah.. cocaine.

    Isn't it all about confidence?

Anyone proclaiming super intelligence is likely to be believed after a credible ramble....if that's the case then regular cocaine will do the same job!
