The lost of signal strength in a (sat/tv) combiner

    Hello Guys,

Once again I please need a dig out from you guys!

I want to bring FTA Sat and Saorview in on an existing cable used for the FTA Sat for the avoidance of drilling more holes in the window.

The problem is I tried a set up with 2 combiners. 1 to combine them outside and one to split them inside. The sat signal is grand, the problem is the Saorview. It shows up no signal on the walker box's menu.

I know that the saorview reception is weak because when I run the saorview cable in the window directly from the aerial the signal strength is not the best at about 25% and poor quality on the installation menu.
But the picture is almost perfect with only the odd freezing of the picture. It is watchable when directly connected to the walker box.

So I am guessing there is considerable losses with 2 combiners? Which is considerable when you already have a poor signal.

Have you got any ideas for a solution guys? I am guessing a booster can not be used with combiner?

Also do joints in the cable made with connectors (not the f plug type) cause losses?

    Thanks in advance,

Not a booster as you guessed but a multiswitch may work instead of the attic combiner.

Seems like some connector may be loose somewhere, have you checked them all?

There should not be a huge loss through a splitter/combiner, but not using high quality F connectors is not a good idea. If you want to use a mast head amplifier (booster), the power supply must be fed to the aerial side of the splitter as they do not pass DC on the UHF side. If your signal is weak, tackle that with a better aerial, the mount it higher and point it more accurately.

Try taking out the splitters and using the downlead with just the UHF signal. Try that on its own and see how it goes. The splitters should not be a problem, but if you take them out, and you still have the problem, then you know it is something else. For example, you down lead may be damaged.

Get the UHF working first, then try the combiner/splitter.
