If you do want to get onto an inquest jury, inform your local coroner and your local gardai.

If you do get on the jury, and find you have any conflict of interest or personal knowledge of deceased or of deceased's family, or of any of the other parties, tell the coroner immediately before the inquest gets under way.

I would have thought that the coronor picks the jury from the electoral register and the gardai just serve the summons on behalf of the court?

Nope. The Gardai do the picking.

well there should to be a legal process
but i think the gardai pick who they want
if thats the case its wrong

    example
a man is found dead in a garda station cell
and then the gardai handpick a jury for an inquest?
    dont think thats a runner

The Ombudsman would investigate where a Garda may be involved. Inquests only happen after all criminal investigations have been completed.

yes but the gardai handpick the jury for all inquests
which could depending on the outcome, could
be seen as a favorable result in some way

the picking of an inquest jury should be seen to be
by random selection and in an open and transparent way
and should not be left to the gardai to do
