Felt unwell giving blood

I have recently been diagnosed with haemochromarosis(iron overload) and have recieved treatment by donating a pint of blood every 2 weeks. On my first visit I was fine but on my second I started to feel unwell when I had the pint nearly given. I got very faint and started sweating really badly. The nurse stopped and checked my blood pressure which was really low. I was put on a drip, put lying down and given oxygen. My breathing was fine. The nurse seemed really worried and called the doctor. My blood pressure started to go up but about half an hour later it dropped again. It took about 2 hours to recover and they let me out. The doctor told me it was phychological and nothing to worry about but I find this hard to believe as the nurse, who was very experienced seemed really worried and even put a name tag on my wrist as she may have thought I may be in danger. I am a strong, healthy male otherwise. Would experienced staff make such a big deal of someone being nervous or was it something more serious?
