    Hi All

Not sure if this is should be in planning or something, but I thought farmers might know the answer.
I am thinking about opening a new gateway into a field. Does anyone know is there a legal max width I can go? or where can I go to find out?.
Because it is a narrow 'one car' road, in order to turn in I an thinking of using 2x 12ft gates so I guess would be 25/26 ft from post to post, also I am wondering can I set them back from the road having my entrance at 32ft approx at the side of the road, like a house.
Something in the back of my mind tells me there is a max width, and I do not want a letter from somewhere telling me I need to reduce it after I put it in place.

    Thank you.

if there is no existing agricultural entrance already there then you need planning permission... me thinks

There is an enterance into the field already, with a 10ft gate, I am thinking of closing that one up and moving the enterance 25 ft away, wideing the current enterance is not an option.

If your moving or widening the gate you need planning permission. Ive done retention applications for agriculture gates in work.

Basically you could go ahead and do it but if an inspector is in the area or you have a neighbour or a 'do gooder' in the area you might be hit with an enforcement notice.

What area of the country are you in?

Rang Mayo Co Co yesterday and they said if the road is less 4 meters you can do it without planning permission.
