LOL, I would have actually gone to watch that match, it certainly wouldn't have been a friendly affair!

What is the history between the two clubs?

What is the history between the two clubs?

Royal Dublin captain messed up the team sheet last year, Corballis pulled them on it and Royaler were disqualified as far as I remember. Nearly lead to violence!

From what i was told, royal dublin had two pairings at home, handicaps both 2 and 12... the captain's sheet had the two 2 handicappers swapped. Anyway match started and after 7/8 holes a Corballis guy returned with a print out of all the rules stating that an incorrect sheet results in the concession of the tie and not just the matches that are wrong.

Royal dublin felt that in the interests of sportsmanship, Corballis should have mentioned it on the first tee when the pairings are being introduced to one another as that is when Corballis would have known there was a problem.

anyway, it was an almighty f*ck up by the royal dublin captain...

Incidentally i believe Corballis where disqualified in the next round!

Even if they did highlight it at the first tee then surely RD would have been DQ'd anyway??

As you said, mighty error by the Captain and RD really can have no issue...

not necessarily, from my understanding, Jack off 2 was to play with Bill 12. John off 2 was to play with Bob off 12.

the sheet said the pairings was John and Bill, and Jack with Bob.
    Both legitimate pairings..

If it was said on the first tee, they could have legitimately played as per what was on the sheet...

thats my interpretation of what was said what happened...i may have picked up some of the facts wrong.

I see what you mean. Personally, I say no restraint!! I'd be doing whatever I could and calling whatever breaches have occured to try to get my team through to the next stage!

No use being all nice and firendly only to lose 5-0!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,476 ✭✭✭ShriekingSheet

Yeah, it seems something like this happens every year now. Team Captains really need to know what they're doing. Truth is, these kind of mistakes happen regularly and aren't spotted/reported.

Would you not rather win on the golf course ?

Personally I'd rather lose to good golf than go through in that manner (if the facts are as stated above).

There have been too many clubs in recent years that have tarnished reputations over stuff like that, they may have been in the right, but sportsmanship is still a big part of golf IMO.

Well done - that's a great result for SV.

    Thanks sheet,
It was courtesy of a hole out from off the green at the 19th in the last match in the Grange I believe.

So I heard, a neighbour is a Grange member, they were not happy. He was telling me a 3 handicapper stuffed a few chips 10/15yds in front of him out the course. Should not have got to 19th, but he acknowledged that you can only beat whats in front of you and thats what SV did.

Bit harsh blaming one guy for losing three matches!! what about the other 2 pairings that were beaten!!!

I dont think he was blaming one guy, just giving one instance. As he said you can't lose two at home and expect to go through.

Playing for Druids Heath and we were beaten 3-2 by European Club.

Came down to the 2nd match in the Heath, EC bridied the 20th hole to win the tie. Heart breaker, we got our win in EC and we were hopeful of taking both ties in DH. Not to be.

Blainroe beat Druids Glen, they play EC next.

Good result for KC. Didn't think they'd have enough of a membership to field a decent team. Lucan are pretty good from what I know.

Wasn't there so only got feedback yesterday in the club. Golf wasn't great I heard and ended up with Lucan losing two at home.

Good luck to Kileen Castlein the next round
