As I order some new hurls for the new season ahead, which hurley maker would ye reccomend??

Have been using Torpeys for the last while but Liam Walsh's seem to be a nice hurley and O' Connors are always up there with the best..

So who in yer opinion makes the best hurleys in Ireland??!!

http://www.handcrafthurleys.com/ : few makers on this site

Teddy McCarthy does some lovely hurls if you are buying from that website.

I bought two TJ Reid's off of handcrafterhurleys.com. One had nice weight to it (I like a bit of weight in my hurls) and hits wonderfully. The other is significantly lighter, but still hits nicely. Not sure if the difference in weight is normal between two hurls from the same shaper.

Cushendall are using Ollie Baker's this year.
They're right and heavy; but you soon get used to it. I've only used mine in 2 matches but it seems very strong...

You should buy a Frank Murphy or a Jim O Brien

The one I got off him is nothing more than a plank tbh, was very dissappointed with it.

I used to use O'Connors, made a lovely light hurl with great strike but they ended up breaking to easily. Heard changed wood supplier.

Anyone recommend a similar type hurl?

Frank Murphy hurls are light and have a long puc ideal for forwards.
If you're a defender I'd use an O Brien they have a fair amount of weight but have a long puc

Be well wide with using Teddy Macs hurls! The guy is a cowboy! I sold him some raw material over a year ago and I am still trying to get the money of him.
I heard too that some club put an order in with downpayment and he never delivered.

Juvenile coach at our club has one of these. Seemed to be pucking longer than usual last night with less effort

Does anyone know a sports shop in Cork city close to the city centre that stocks hurleys made by a good hurley maker. I am in town tomorrow for a wedding and I would like to pick up one for my son who has just started hurling with a club in London.

No decent ones in the city apart from the usual ****e they sell in the sports shops.. but Slattery sports in Fermoy are selling O'Connor hurleys. If you're coming from Dublin or on the motorway Fermoy is on your way into the city.

Thinking of getting a new one myself too as my O'Brien is awful for pucking. I had a look at the Cultec website and I would like some more opinions on it before buying.

Definitely added a good few yards to my pucking, very consistent strike.
Nice wieght, might be a litttle light for some and the grip isn't the thickest.
Have heard they loose a little of there spring after about a year and the bas gets very smooth when it looses its outer layer of paint but they take alot more abuse than your standard hurley, not sure if many have managed to break them.
One or two of the Dubs played with them at the weekened in the All Ireland semi, didn't help them though

I see, so after a year they get unreliable but would recommend to buy one?

What type of money are you talking for one of these "top class hurls"??

The stuff in the shops are rubbish and it's tough to find a decent hurley maker.
