    Hey lads,
Interested in joining the gym, heard from the roommate that you can join it for 40 euro for 1 month, is this true?
    Cheers,
    Ryan

If it is I certainly wouldn't join.

I don't know if this will help or not Price List, I briefly scanned it a while back.

Since Im considering studying at DCU, Im also big into my weightlifting so just wondering what type of free weight facilities and equipment the gym has? (e.g Range of Dumbells, Olympic Bars, Squat Racks etc).

    Cheers!

No squat rack, just a smith machine. Loads of dumbells and benches. Two bench press benches with bars. Just the two bars mind you. There's a place not too far away called Informed Performance that comes highly recommended on the fitness forum. I'm going to go up there when my membership in DCU runs out, if not before.

Ahh Iv heard of Informed Performance, was even thinking of going there relatively soon but just wasn't aware it was so close to DCU. Thanks :)

The weightlifting club has some serious gear alright in terms as olympic bars and squat racks afaik if youre into that side of the weights but the normal dcu gym is more aimed at the more, in want of a better word, casual/moderate weights user. Just have to look at the range of dumbells. High performance gym is an improvement but normal membership cant get you access~usually got through a club. Got in with some of the athletics boys the odd time.

Didn't want to make a new thread but just wondering how busy does this place in the evening?

I'm considering joining this gym or NAC.

depends on the day, weather, whats going on around the campus that night. Can be tough jammers every now and then, there was the odd time i was waiting around to use any cardio machine at all (treadmill/bikes/rowing machines) and you might have to wait a little for a weights bench every now and then, but nothing you wouldn't expect during a busy period in any gym really.

Just so anyone else reading this knows, informed performance is closed down.

If you are unsure of how to use the machines in the gym or unsure of what exercsie you should be doing to achieve your goals, don't hestiate in asking our instructors for guidance with your workout

Can i get a ticket to this?

    Those are last year's rates.

This year's can be found here

I believe that the student rate is cheaper than most gyms elsewhere

Or this one which is 15 minutes away from DCU

Most Important factor about DCU Gym is the split between the "normal gym" and the High Performance Gym.

If your serious into weights and don't have High Performance access, DCU isn't the gym for you. The "normal part" has a very limited free weights section and usually is full of young fellas doing bicep curls, or looking in the mirror.

The "normal part" does have good cardio equipment which is available to all Gym users including High Performance.
So if your a casual Gym goer, that just likes to keep ticking over this Gym is ideal. If your serious into lifting, either seek High Performance access or join somewhere else.

The High Performance section has limited access, you need to be on one of the college teams or apply for access to gain entry.
This is a quality gym and has no lack of free weights, not crowded and no messers looking at themselves in the mirror.

Worth bearing in mind for anybody joining - somebody I know recently finished their 12 month membership, thinking that would be the end of it.

But it's in the terms of the agreement that unless you cancel one month prior to when you wish to stop paying membership, the membership will keep on recurring.

Just a heads up, my friend read that section when joining but forgot about it a year later.

I'll probably join this gym since I'm more casual and not into serious weightlifting.

No you're a student of DCU, so can only avail of the 195 or 260 membership. I assume the €80 membership is for secondary school students.

I'll find out to be sure, I am heading down on Friday anyways.

Re msg stating that you have to cancel your 12 month membership before hand! They don't do direct debits so how would they get your money!! :0

    That is simply NOT true!
