Letter of Recommendation

I emailed my area manager from a previous job about a week and a half ago regarding a letter of recommendation. No reply. I rang him at the beginning of this week, apparently a girl with the exact same name as mine sends him a lot of emails which he ignores and my email was ignored.

I asked him could he do a letter up for me and he said he would, he asked me to email HR and they would get on to it for me, and he himself would write up an email that night. So, I sent the email and I have heard nothing since. No email to say that it will be dealt with soon...nothing.

I rang HR again and I got an answering machine, this was at lunchtime, the secretary said she was there today.

Does a company have the right not to write you a letter of recommendation? Does the company have to get back to you saying that they do not want to recommend you or just leave you hanging there until you get the picture?

Thanks Irish_Elect. I was going to ring the area manager on Monday, I just couldn't be bothered now, I probably won't get anywhere. I'm annoyed as I worked with them for 3 years, did them so many favors and this is what I get in return.

These letters of recommendation have to be less than 6 months old. Ah well, they were a shiite company to work for anyway, they don't give one iota of a crap about their workers. I should name and shame, but I don't think it's allowed.
