I'm just wondering if I connect my Wifi iPad 2 to my iPhone 4 using the personal hotspot, will location services work on the iPad? I.e. Will the map app on iPad know my location? Will check in on Facebook know where I am??

    Thanks

If recent reports are to go by, the answer is Yes, it will work.

just be aware it doesn't update as much as the gps on the iphone 4 does, but it's only really noticable when driving in a car (as a passenger mind you). otherwise you won't notice it.

Yep, turn by turn on navigation doesn't work so well but it's not like you're going to attach your iPad to your windscreen and use as a Sat Nav - that's what the iPhone 4 is for. One other caveat, using the internet hotspot feature on you iPhone 4 does kill the battery on your iphone pretty fast.

Totally, was just mentioning it so that others were aware.

i've found it doesn't really kill my phone battery much more drastically than just using 3g on the phone. does make the phone burn a hole in my leg though if i keep it in my pocket.

Is there a charge with O2 for using this new personal hotspot feature?

Just want to check as someone I know was stung with 60 euros extra charges for using similar USB tethering when he had a data plan in place late last year.

Charging is totally carrier dependant. As far as I know and I'm open to correction on this O2 charge along with vodafone. Three and meteor don't.

Depends on what package you're on. Best to ring them.

Yeah - just highlighting it - anyone doing any kind of Tethering - usb or Hotspot - be careful - can run up a big bill.

From what I can read - In some cases the huge data plan you have does sometimes _Not_ cover tethering or hotspot sharing - that needs to come from a separate pot of data you need to arrange with them - just using it cos its there - without prior arrangement with them leaves you with a hefty fine from some carriers.
