I know a break from the normal what car can I buy for 10k thread.

    Anyway...
I have a hol later in the year for 10 days which I'll probably end up going to America or a sun hol or something normal like that... BUT

My question or more of a pipe dream I'm sure is how much of europe could you see in that time...(before anyone says you need longer or months etc... thats just not possible with work, ,other commitments etc)

I always said that I'd do this on a motorbike but you get older realise that you'd end up in hospital decided if and its obviously a massive if I was going to do it I'd do it in a car.

So the way I see it is if you flew Dublin to say Paris pick up the rental car and went from there.

    France to Luxembourg

    Luxembourg to Germany

    Germany to Poland

    Poland to Czech Republic

    Czech Republic to Slovakia

    Slovakia to Austria to Hungry

    Hungry to Croatia

    Croatia to Slovenia to Italy

    Italy to Switzerland

    Switzerland to France

    And home again.

The towns and cities would be picked before setting off with some drifting allowed.

I reckon 4-8 hours worth of driving each day or more if your stopping off around the places you go which you probably would.

That would be 12 countries though in 10 days which would be some feet when you think about it.

Any thoughts other than dont be rediculous?

Again I do realise this probably wont happen but its nice to dream on a Friday.

Only problem that I can see is, that most car rental companies, whon't let you take the car outside EU.

I'd also love to do this at some stage, and having driven some quite long distances in Europe in just one country, I figured the best way of doing it, and actually least complicated regarding extra cost and hassle of dropping rental cars in different countries, is to combine car and train. Forget long hauls like Paris to Nice in a car, it's boring motorway for about 8 hours, then you need food and rest, so a full day wasted on one trip. Combine with a train however and you get your rest plus cover boring sections at the same time!
More time to admire scenery from a train window too.

What about something like this ?

    http://www.wickedcampers.co.uk/locations.html

They have pickup locations all over Europe. know a guy who picked one up in Amsterdam, went on a trip to Belgium, France, Italy, Switzerland and then Dropped off in Munich.

Plus your saving on accomodation and can stop where ever you fancy :)

They don't have restrictions on which countries you can go to either afaik.

Not as naff looking and a bit more comfortable. Think your trying to do too much in too short a time. Pick your top spots id say and work from there

I've taken a few holidays driving in France and Belguim, getting the boat over and using my own car but I had an agenda in visiting WW1+2 sites so to a degree it was planned, but even then the distances are huge compared to driving here. In ten days I couldn't really see you getting to see anything of the countries you listed, I don't think you'd have time to stop apart from fueling up.
I did a trip on a bike a few years back from Cherbourg to Malaga, 2700 mile round trip, took 3 days each way, stopping each night at the nearest hotel to the motorway I could find, which sometimes took a few hours, seen nothing of the countries except for motorway. A mate did the same trip in two days each way in a van but had to drive 12 hours each day. Expensive on tolls too.Don't get me wrong, I love the trips, don't mind the driving, but unless you have a specific region to visit, and there are a lot in France alone,it's not the best way to see Europe, unless, as mentioned, you have a camper and tons of time.
