When its time to change runners, old ones in bin?

Maybe an odd question, but I have to change my original "good" runners, as I have done about 300/350 miles in them [and all those early miles I was very heavy, when you think that I have lost 6 stone over my 9 or 10 months running] - so was heavy impact. The penny finally dropped last night, my hips and knee's after wrecked running in them, as they are past their useful lifetime [where Im totally fine if I wear my other runners which I got a great deal on in Jan Sales, I only started wearing late Jan/Feb]

Im wondering, what do folks do with the worn out runners?

Its just from the sole and the uppers they look fine - would charity's take them or something, or do folks toss them in the bin?

Its just a shame to trow away €100 runners cos I cant run on them anymore?

I usually hold on to them for gardening & the like, even tho' they're worn out from a running perspective they're grand for cutting the grass etc. I find it v hard to throw them away TBH. Usually when I buy a new pair I do so before the others are completely worn out so I can still use them (the old ones) for running off road keeping the new ones clean for a small while at least!
A while back someone, who, I cant remember was collecting old runners to send to Africa, the idea being that even though you could no longer use them for running on roads here they'd be grand on the softer trails over in Kenya and the like.

Well done on the weight loss by the way, thats savage going!!

Wasn't Mick Rice of this parish involved in a scheme to collect old shoes for passing on to third world runners? Not sure if that's still going.

Yes, great work on the weight loss.

Sending them to Africa or something is just what I was thinking - I will maybe email a few charitys who I know could be into that kinda thing.

re: weight loss thanks - I got "lucky" that after many years trying many things fell into place at once [good weight loss program, got into cooking therefore cutting out eating take aways and other rubbish, got into going to gym and later into running via C25k etc etc] and when all ducks were in a row it all kinda fell off :)

keep one pair so you can put screws in the bottom of them for home made snow/ice runners - they'll come in handy next winter.

Haha. I bought a new pair recently (got fitted in Amphibian King) and I was praying that it wouldn't rain for at least a few days. Oh the vanity!

Ah man, don't be dismissing it by putting it down to luck. You've obviously put a lot of hard work into it (regardless of how much you enjoy it) and you should be really proud.

Oh, and let us know if you find a place that will take old runners for charity.

Just be careful you put the screws the right way around. :D:p

One of the sports shops takes them and they send them somwhere. Think I saw it in Lifestyle or elverys sports .There was a big bin in the shop for old ones.
Go by the wear on the undersole , not on the mileage in them. Manufactureres will advise you to buy before you really need to .
Congratulations on your new body. Enjoy :D
