My brother left for Oz almost 2 years ago, neglectling to get the NCT done on his Prelude, which was due in May the year he left. Car has been garaged since he left - I understand you can get a test done 3 months in advance so Im wondering if I would be able to get 2 certs if it passes on the dat, or would I just book another visit to the centre on the same day for the most up to date cert? Or is it like the tax where if it was off the road it can be exempt?

You'll get one cert, from May 11 on :)

On cert it's not specified since when it's valid.
Whenever it was issued, it's valid.

I assume the car in question was due NCT in May 2009.
If OP will NCT it f.e. tomorrow, he will get NCT cert valid from tomorrow to May 2013.
