9 speed chains??? - whats a good one?

    Can anyone recommend a good shimano compatible 9 speed chain that won't cost a bomb but will last a while? Whilst were at it, what does the HG and the following numbers represent on the shimano chains? For example HG 37 - is this a **** chain as Ive nearly bought it! :rolleyes:

    Sorry - just realised this is probably not the right forum? Havn't figured out how to remove it yet - sorry

    This one: Click(SRAM)

    HG = Hyperglide and the number is just the model number..

    I use SRAM chains on my shimano equipped bikes for their powerlink connectors. Easy to install and remove.

    Yep - brilliant idea - is the sram power link compatable with the shimano chains?

    Not claiming to be wiser but my experience of trying to join a 10 speed Shimano chain ( your's is a 9 sp I know)with a Sram powerlink connector , was unsuccessful . Can't remember which one , but either the Shimano chain was narrower or the Sram link was narrower ( didn't have a vernier ) . This was subsuquently confrmed to me later by the CRC technical sales dept. So if I was you I'd stick with a Sram connector with a Sram chain . Sram chains are incidentally compatible with Shimano drive trains , no issue there .

    Now Im going to admit to being on the thick side - I rebuilt my road bike about three years ago and went through this rigmarole. The switch finally turned on in me brain and I had a look at my existing chain - yep its a sram! At the time I did it on purpose so that I could clean the chain easily - the power link never gave me any hassle! Drive on....
