British-style democracy

Hi folks! You know I’ve always believed people’s opinion must correspond with that of their representatives in government if they live in a true democracy. But here’s the paradox! It turns out that the principle is not applied to the cradle of all democracies Great Britain where 557 out of 570 "humble servants of the people" have called the Libyan operation ‘correct’ while only 35% of rank-and-file Britons have agreed with them as opposed to 45% who think the decision to bomb the country was actually wrong. So you see it comes out that almost half of the country’s population disagrees with their parliament. Hmm... And the damned snobs dare to criticize us for lack of democracy! What will they say now?
And as far as the bombing of Libya is concerned I do think Sarkozy and Cameron raised the dust not because they really want to save civilians but because Gaddafi has some dirty stuff about them on his hands and that’s exactly the reason why they’re so desperate to destroy him personally. That’s it folks... What do you think?

Being elected doesn't mean you have support of the people, it means a certain percentage of people thought you were the least worst option to represent them.

When did this bit happen? (did it happen at all or is the above just a lazy tirade?)
