I know its a regular query but seems to be more so about road bikes.

Want an MTB for general use on and off road. Going for one of the Cube LTD range. I'm 5.10 with a 79 cm inside leg all of which suggests an 18" frame. I did a few test rides on 16" sand 18"s going to go back and do a few more.

What should I be looking for in order to decide fit? LBS is great for offering advice without being pushy but id like to form an informed opinion myself as I'm the one who will be stuck with it.

I'm 5'10 (and a bit) and have an 18" Cube Ltd. The stem was a bit long so I put a shorter one on, but I might change it back.

The advice seems to be to err on the small side if you can't decide between sizes but the 18" seems fine to me.

For your height I would say a 19" Frame would be best, different manufactuers top tube lenghts and geometry will vary so your best advise is to get a few test spins on the bikes you are interested in so you can see which is the best fit...

As the man says but I would be fairly sure the 18" would be right for you - the 16" will be very cramped!

No 19" in the cube they go up in 2" jumps. Cubes sizing guide would have me at 17.85 inches. Think im a tiny bit stretched on the 18" but I feel bit strange on the 16". Being a noob makes it difficult to understand what to look for so im scrounging around for all opinion and info i can get :-D

Are you stuck with having to buy a CUBE? Maybe try Lapierre, Specialized, Giant etc?

To give you an example, i just bought a new MTB which was a 49CM or 19" frame, now i am 5'8 and my other mtb is a Medium or 17.5". Now i tried the same bike as i just bought in a 45cm or 17.5" and it just felt and looked all wrong... So point being, head to your local LBS and see what suits you best... I can recommend Cycleways, or Eurocycles..as well as Cyclesuperstore in Tallaght who have a huge range of bikes..
